On June 28th the Brackley 55+ Friendship Club was delighted to unveil a Self–Serve
Library Box for the community.
“The Brackley Friendship Club decided on this community enhancement project when Covid-19 restrictions cancelled the remainder of our scheduled programs,” stated Marie Kenny, Program Coordinator. “Reading is a wonderful gift for all ages to enjoy and with this little library in our community there will be an endless supply of new material for all ages to enjoy.”
“Anyone
can take a book and leave a book, so they can get something new to read and
share books that they have loved with their neighbours,” added Kenny. “It’s all
part of building community.”
The
Library Box was built by community resident Keith Panton, a father of two
home-schooled boys. His wife Debbie Panton told community members at the
launch, “It was our delighted to work on this community project and we know
that many residents will enjoy this initiative.”
The
Friendship Club would also like to thank the PEI Department of Health and
Wellness for the Community Catalyst Grant and the Rural
Municipality of Brackley for partnering with the Club.
The
Brackley 55+ Friendship Club is open to all residents of the Municipality,
there is no fee, no formal meeting, just an opportunity to join together for
fun and friendship – as we believe as a community we are stronger together.
The new Library Box is located at Brackley Commons and will be in place from April to October annually.
Program Coordinator Marie Kenny helps her granddaughter Hazel Grace Tremere put the first book in the little library, also helping is club member and long-time resident Glenn Younker.
(l-r) Cecil Kenny, Myron Younker and Keith Panton mounted the new little library at the Brackley Commons Community Park.
